GP Extended Access Support Services

HUC will partner with your GP service to offer primary care access to your patients outside of normal working hours within West Essex. Providing additional appointments at evenings and weekends improves options for access for your patients and capacity for your practice.

What does this mean?

For your patient, this means that they will have the opportunity to speak with trained staff who will assist them with managing their healthcare needs. We can help them by providing routine appointments with a General Practitioner (GP), an Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP), a Practice Nurse or a Healthcare Assistant (HCA.)

For your admin team, this means that they will have support which will help them manage the day-to-day business requirements, and will allow them to have more time to focus on the patients who are on-site within your practice. This means that General Practitioners in hours can focus on the patients who have long-term or chronic conditions without minimizing the needs of those who require attention for their health care needs out of hours. These appointments can be used for a variety of services including consultations, dressings, injections, reviews, and contraception.

For your practice, this means we become an extension of your team. HUC has a wealth of experience when it comes to extended access, and we will help you by supporting your team and alleviating some of the pressures of day-to-day administration. Your practice will be able to use the time reclaimed by utilizing our extended access service to help you deliver other clinical targets, supporting your efforts around Diabetes checks, Asthma clinics and more. These Quality and Outcomes Framework (QoF) measures could increase funding for your practice, as well as may support achieving higher CQC results.

Patients will call a dedicated number for all Extended Access queries. The phone line is manned between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through to Friday, and patients are able to leave voicemails.

Patients are also able to cancel appointments through this number as well.
