Out of Hours Service
Outside normal surgery hours, when you call your GP practice, you will be re-directed to an Out of Hours service. Within Hertfordshire and West Essex, Cambridgeshire & Peterborough and Luton & Bedfordshire, HUC provides this service. We operate our Out of Hours service from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. on weekdays, and continuously from 6.30 p.m. on a Friday evening to 8:00 a.m. on a Monday morning, including Bank Holidays.
When you call 111, you will speak with one our Health Advisors who will take you through a clinical assessment which will assess whether your call requires immediate discussion with a GP. If you need to speak with a doctor before your surgery re-opens, see a doctor at one of our Primary Care Centres or have a home visit arranged, the doctor will call you back.
Each of our Primary Care Centres is staffed with a Receptionist, a Driver and a number of Clinicians. Where possible our GPs, Nurses and Urgent Care Practitioners providing Out of Hours care live and work locally and therefore they understand the needs of the community.
If you are too unwell to travel, bed bound, disabled, receiving palliative care or it is considered clinically necessary – a you may be offered a home visit. Home visits are carried out by one of our GPs who will be driven to your home by one of our drivers.
