A Green Purpose at HUC
Colleagues at HUC planted a tree to mark World Environment Day on Monday 5 June. As a social enterprise with a strong community focus, HUC is dedicated to increasing awareness of sustainability amongst colleagues as part of its Green Plan.
The trees were planted on Monday and were funded by colleagues donating clothes for reuse during a “Green Clean Week” in April, organised by a team of committed HUC Green Ambassadors. A total of 175kg of clothes donations helped raise just over £85 and colleagues also rolled up their sleeves to pick litter, to swap stationery or walk to work.
CEO David Archer plants a tree
HUC CEO David Archer also got involved and planted one of three fruit trees., including a plum, cherry and apple tree.
He says, “I am proud to lead an organisation where people genuinely care about their impact on others and on the environment. I’ve enjoyed planting the tree this morning, which demonstrates our commitment to a sustainable future – and we hope to see our trees grow into maturity and harvest some of their fruit.”
Jamie Murray, Governance Manager at HUC says
“The Green Ambassador group really started as part of our commitment to sustainability and the launch of our Green Plan last year. It has been brilliant working with so many like-minded people. It is especially rewarding to be able to plant these trees as a result of everyone’s engagement and support of our Green Clean Week earlier this year. Our commitment to a green future continues, not only with the delivery of our new hybrid fleet vehicles which will significantly reduce our environmental emissions.
