With Armed Forces Day taking place on Saturday, June 27, we’re celebrating the colleagues who help strengthen HUC’s connection to the Armed Forces community.
As a Bronze signatory of the Armed Forces Covenant, HUC is committed to supporting serving personnel, veterans, reservists and military families. The covenant reflects our commitment to ensuring that members of the Armed Forces community are treated fairly and are not disadvantaged because of their service, while recognising the valuable contribution they make to our organisation and wider society.
One colleague with a particularly strong connection to this community is Clinical Advisor Jackie Reynolds, who has worked for HUC since 2018.
Jackie, who lives in Bedfordshire, joined HUC following a long and rewarding career as a frontline paramedic with the East of England Ambulance Service. Her commitment to public service is closely intertwined with her family’s military connections.
Her husband, Mark, is a veteran of the Royal Marines and, throughout their life together, the couple have experienced many of the challenges and sacrifices familiar to military families.
Reflecting on those experiences, Jackie said: “Like many military families, much of our married life has been spent apart because of work commitments. It hasn’t always been easy, but it has shaped us, built resilience, and given us a deep understanding of service and sacrifice.
“Some might even say that the time apart is why we’ve lasted so long!”
Outside work, Jackie supports the Armed Forces community through her involvement with the Military Wives Choir, rehearsing weekly at Chicksands and Henlow.
Over the years she has performed at a range of events supporting veterans and military families, but one memory stands out above all others.
“One of my proudest moments was singing at the Menin Gate in Belgium,” she said.
Jackie, who is currently rehearsing for the Veterans’ Foundation’s 10th Anniversary Fundraising Celebration at the Honourable Artillery Company , which takes place in London this coming Thursday [July 2], says singing continues to play an important role in her life.
“I don’t read music or play an instrument, and I’m a very average alto who never volunteers for solos,” she said. “But singing lifts me in a way nothing else can.
“As one of our best-known songs reminds us: Together We Are Stronger.”
That message of community, resilience, and mutual support is one that resonates strongly throughout the Armed Forces community.
“The military family is special,” Jackie added. “Different life journeys, but when our voices combine, we are always stronger together.”
As we mark Armed Forces Day, we would like to thank Jackie and all colleagues who serve, have served, or support loved ones in the Armed Forces. Your dedication, commitment and contribution are valued, and we are proud to recognise the important role you play within both HUC and the wider Armed Forces community.
Happy Armed Forces Day and thank you to everyone who serves, has served, or , like Jackie, supports those who do.
