HUC Stories: James Head reflects on his career as a Paramedic

Ahead of International Paramedics Day, we caught up with James Head, our Head of Clinical Assessment Service, who reflects on his inspiring career journey and personal growth as a paramedic. In the video, James shares how his experiences on the frontline have shaped his leadership approach and the lessons he has learned throughout his career that continue to drive him in supporting both patients and colleagues.  

James’s passion for medicine started early; even his childhood toys included toy stethoscopes and medical kits. When it came to choosing a career path, the emergency services felt like a natural fit. “I wanted to be involved with the emergency medicine side of things,” James recalls, “helping people and being there for them at a time when they really need it.” Since qualifying as a paramedic, he has spent the last 19 years progressing through a range of senior and operational clinical roles with HUC. 

James also speaks about what International Paramedics Day means to him, recognising the dedication and compassion of paramedics across the globe. His reflections offer a powerful reminder of the vital role paramedics play in delivering exceptional care and making a positive impact on people’s lives.  

In the video, James extends a heartfelt ‘thank you’ to his paramedic colleagues, a sentiment which we wholeheartedly echo.
