Over the last few months, HUC has had the pleasure of hosting a series of educational visits, organised in partnership with the University of Bedfordshire. Across multiple sessions between late April and mid-May, we opened our doors to postgraduate students studying for their MSc in Integrated Healthcare Practice and Strategic Leadership.
Through these visits, we were able to provide future healthcare leaders with a valuable insight into HUC services, including NHS 111 operations, patient pathways, workforce roles, and HUC’s critical role within the wider healthcare system.
To give them a true sense of the frontline experience, students listened to pre-recorded case studies, listened in on live calls, and engaged in lively Q&A sessions with our operational colleagues and Operational Delivery Managers. They also participated in presentations and contact centre tours.
The sessions were designed not just to explain what we do, but to showcase the diverse career pathways and workforce opportunities available within care providers like HUC. For many students, it was a first-hand look at how complex, fast-paced, and interconnected modern urgent care really is.
The feedback from the university cohort has been incredibly rewarding, highlighting the value of connecting classroom theory with real-world clinical operations.
Dr. Nenadi Adamu, Senior Lecturer in Society, Community and Health, and Course Coordinator for the MSc program, shared her reflections on the visits:
“The students found this to be an exceptional experience as it allowed them the rare opportunity to get some insights into the range of issues that present themselves to the non-emergency service as well as the interconnectedness of the team in managing the responses that are given. We have a range of students, some of whom are clinical and some with no experience of the UK health system and they each took something away from the visit and will highly recommend this to the next cohort. I look forward to working with you again for the next academic year.”
These visits form an important part of HUC’s ongoing commitment to supporting education, raising awareness of NHS 111 services, and establishing ourselves as a premier employment and placement destination for the next generation of healthcare professionals.
A massive thank you goes out to our Operational Delivery Managers, trainers, clinicians, and frontline teams who took the time to share their expertise and make these visits such a resounding success. We look forward to welcoming the next cohort of students in the upcoming academic year!
