Kind-hearted HUC staff demonstrate Christmas spirit in abundance
Employees of HUC have demonstrated Christmas spirit in abundance.
Staff across HUC sites in the East and South West answered a call from colleague Jess Bell to donate gifts to individuals facing a far-from-fairytale festive period.
Public-spirited Jess asked a number of refuges and veterans charities across the two patches to come up with Christmas wish lists for their service users; she then attached tags detailing the items chosen to Christmas trees across the HUC estate and asked kind-hearted colleagues to select a tag and donate the relevant gift.
This led to generous HUC staff buying more than 140 presents, which have been handed over to the various charities during the course of the past week.
Those to benefit from the initiative were as follows:
- Butterfly House, Bedford
- Cambridge Refuge
- SIDAS Paragon in Somerset
- Peterborough Women’s Aid
- Welwyn Hatfield Women’s Refuge
Jess praises colleagues' generosity
“I couldn’t be prouder of everyone’s efforts,” beamed NHS 111 Support Administrator Jess. “While Christmas is a wonderful time for the majority of us, I’d like to think that the generosity of staff across HUC will bring at least a little joy to some of those for who the festive period may be rather more difficult.
“The response to our appeal was overwhelming and, having established relationships with so many wonderful charities, I’d like to think there will be a lasting legacy and we can support their work again in the future.”
