Celebrating our colleagues this National Apprenticeship Week
At HUC, we encourage our colleagues to develop their skills and actively support professional development through apprenticeships and other training programmes. This National Apprenticeship Week, we are proud to celebrate the commitment and dedication of some of our apprentices.
In this blog series, we highlight the achievements of some of our colleagues – Barbara Moran, Claire Wilderspin, Lara Galliford and Charlotte Collett
Barbara Moran, Head of Transformation
Level 7 Senior Leaders Apprenticeship with PGDiP at the University of Hertfordshire
Barbara first joined HUC in April 2021 on a part-time secondment from BLMK ICB, and took on the role of Head of Transformation on November 1, 2021. While it’s always busy at HUC, Barbara has thoroughly enjoyed the variety of projects the Transformation Team handle.
“From launching the new Bedford and Peterborough Contact Centres to supporting the mobilisation of our South West Services, and driving digital innovation with projects like SMS Care Advice, there’s never a dull moment at HUC,” Barbara says. “Working across HUC’s services and regions has also given me the chance to connect with amazing people from across the organisation.”
In September 2022, Barbara started a Level 7 Senior Leaders Apprenticeship with PGDiP at the University of Hertfordshire. The course has been invaluable for her development, she says, equipping her with deeper insights into leadership, strategy, and culture. “It has helped me align our transformation projects with HUC’s strategic vision while focusing on important aspects like team culture and engagement.”

The positive impact of apprenticeships
“The apprenticeship also includes on-the-job learning, allowing me to apply what I’ve learned in real-time. My work-based mentor has been instrumental in helping me integrate these new skills into my role. The apprenticeship means I am able to bring back learning into HUC and put it into practice.”
Looking ahead, Barbara is excited about the potential to move into a more senior role, and believes this apprenticeship is a key step in that journey. “I’m also looking forward to the MBA conversion course that’s part of the programme, which I hope to start in September,” she adds.
“I highly recommend apprenticeships to others, especially those looking to grow within the organisation. The hands-on learning and diverse perspectives have made this journey all the more enriching,” she signs off.
