Meet Emily Whitehead
At HUC, we are passionate about our people and committed to the growth and development of colleagues. We understand that career development is a journey, and to support this journey, we ensure continuous learning and development opportunities are available to support all colleagues.
Emily, a valued colleague at our Peterborough contact centre, recently completed her incident debriefer training to support her roles as an NHS 111 Call Handler, Coach and Auditor. She shared with us her thoughts about the training course and how beneficial it has been to her.
The role of an incident debriefer
An incident debriefer is an individual who offers support to our NHS 111 call handler colleagues following a demanding call. The debriefer provides a source of comfort and creates a secure environment for colleagues to express their emotions and facilitates the process of recovery post a call.
How was the debriefer course for you and what did you gain from it?
The one-day course was really informative and interactive. I gained valuable insights about how to schedule a structured debrief when needed and it has equipped me with the skills to create a safe space for open communication about feelings. I now feel I am able to provide the necessary support to my colleagues after their challenging calls.
How will the course support your role/s?
The knowledge I have gained will significantly support my role as a non-clinical floorwalker, making me more aware of the signs if something doesn’t seem right with a colleague and be able to offer more effective assistance and promote well-being within the team.
Would you recommend the course to others and why?
I would highly recommend this course to others, as it not only provides practical skills for debriefing but also contributes to creating a supportive and resilient work environment.
