Gemma Norton's Journey as a Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner in the South West
In our ongoing tribute to our dedicated colleagues during apprenticeship week, we turn our spotlight to the South West of England. Meet Gemma Norton, a Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner currently completing a 3-year part-time Masters in Advanced Clinical Practice. As she enters her final year, Gemma is gearing up for her End Point Assessment with a view to graduate between April and July.
Gemma’s apprenticeship journey has been an rewarding experience, enriching her with a wealth of knowledge that enhances her role.
Reflecting on her growth, Gemma shares
“Since commencing my 2021 apprenticeship, I’ve acquired valuable knowledge, experience and confidence in advanced practice, benefiting my role as a Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner. Aligning my approach with the four pillars of Advanced Practice—Clinical Practice, Leadership, Education, and Research—has facilitated my continuous development within the Out of Hours service.”
She continues, “Along this journey, I’ve obtained qualifications such as Level 7 Advanced Clinical Assessment and Decision Making and Independent Prescribing, expanding my scope to confidently handle diverse patient groups and complex presentations. My extended understanding of research and new leadership skills have helped me considerably, allowing me to support the organisation with undertaking clinical audit and clinical governance duties.”
