Our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant
As a signatory of the Armed Forces Covenant, we already have a number of colleagues working for us who have links to the Armed Forces. Today, we meet Kelsey Haver, Training and Development Manager.
As a signatory of the Armed Forces Covenant, we already have a number of colleagues working for us who have links to the Armed Forces. Today, we meet Kelsey Haver, Training and Development Manager.
Kelsey Haver joined HUC in 2021 on a fixed-term contract as a Training and Development Admin. As her husband is an officer in the British Army, he is posted to a different location every two years, forcing them to move house frequently.
“Many spouses of Armed Forces have problems finding an employer who can support their very specific needs – including having to move every two years. That is why they can often only work part-time or have gaps in their CVs. I have been fortunate that with HUC I found an employer that could support these requirements. During my time in the organisation, I’ve moved twice, and have been able to continue working as normal. In addition, my move dates came through at really short notice both times – a week before the new posting started – and my line manager was really flexible with me taking time off to accommodate that.”
But that’s not everything. During her time at HUC, Kelsey also made the most of the opportunities available to her. Starting as a temp, she quickly became a permanent member of staff, working her way from Training Coordinator to Training Manager. She now has her own team, which she manages whilst working remotely and has launched a few important new training programmes from their military posting. She is also undertaking a CIPD qualification in Organisational Learning and Development.
“It’s been quite a journey and I’m grateful for all the opportunities HUC has given me. When COVID started, I was unemployed and HUC gave me a chance during a difficult time. I enjoy working with so many passionate people who are really committed to making a difference and it’s a great environment for anyone with links to the Armed Forces to flourish.”
