Celebrating our colleagues this National Apprenticeship Week
At HUC, we encourage our colleagues to develop their skills and actively support professional development through apprenticeships and other training programmes. This National Apprenticeship Week, we are proud to celebrate the commitment and dedication of some of our apprentices.
In this blog, we spoke to Lara, our Relationship Business Partner who is currently in the midst of her apprenticeship.
Lara Galliford, Relationship Business Partner
Pursuing Business Administration Level 3
After several years in primary care, Lara made the leap into a new role as a Relationship Business Partner role at HUC in March 2023. It was a steep learning curve, but with the support of her colleagues, she quickly grew into her role. As she grew more comfortable in her role, she felt she was ready to expand her skills, which led her to explore an apprenticeship.
“Though I wasn’t sure which specific area to specialise in, the Business Administration course stood out. It covers a range of valuable topics, including customer service, marketing, human resources, and leadership. This well-rounded foundation felt like the perfect fit to further develop my career,” Lara explains.
“Although I’m still early in my apprenticeship, I’ve already started applying what I’ve learned. I’m collaborating with teams across the organisation to use my new knowledge in different areas, which has been both exciting and rewarding,” she adds.

Continuous support from HUC to further her development
“I have received immense support from HUC, and they’ve offered dedicated time for off-the-job learning,” Lara says, adding, “My line manager also participates in review meetings with my apprenticeship coach to ensure I get the most from the programme.”
Having skipped university to enter the workforce directly after higher education, this apprenticeship provides a unique opportunity to earn qualifications and continue advancing in her career. She highly recommends this course to anyone looking to build on their skills and take their career further.
“The programme allows you to build on previously gained skills with guidance from coaches and in-depth training,” she concludes.
