Nirmal talks to us about her recent course
In this week’s spotlight on learning and development, we turn our attention to a well-known colleague in our Welwyn Garden City contact centre office—Nirmal, a dedicated Team Leader. Nirmal shares insights into a recent management course she completed and the benefits it has brought to her professional journey.
Diving into the specifics of the course, Nirmal talks to us about five key topics covered by the course which are crucial for managers to support their team: “The 101 Management course addressed essential areas such as the Roles and Responsibilities of a Manager, HR Essentials for Managers, Absence Management and Managing Performance, Disciplinary and Grievance, and Recruitment and Selection.”
The course has already positively impacted Nirmal’s role and she believes in the importance of continuous learning in managerial positions: “Despite having worked as a Team Leader for over three years, these courses always have something different to offer. They give an insight of how other managers work, their experience in handling difficult situations, the positives and negatives, alongside details such as what should be a part of a job advert, how a grievance should be handled and managing difficult conversations.”
Staying on top of government guidelines
“These courses also touch on government guidelines and I find that this is helpful in keeping myself up to date with the latest changes. It’s good to learn and develop in the management role to be able to guide the team in the right direction, which in turn supports HUC.”
Committed to investing in our colleagues
At HUC, we are committed to investing in our colleagues’ knowledge and skills. Reflecting on her own journey from a finance background, with over nine years at HUC, Nirmal acknowledges the pivotal role of organisational support: “HUC has always come up with opportunities for me to progress and offers varied roles for different people. They also give opportunities to students if they want to study further. There are lots of instructor-led courses and self-learned courses offered by HUC for further learning and I am very grateful for this support.”
