Celebrating Success: Sophia Woollams' Journey through Apprenticeship at HUC
This National Apprenticeship Week, we take pride in recognising the commitment and dedication of our apprentices. At HUC, we have a long-standing tradition of supporting professional development through apprenticeships. Today, we shine a spotlight on one of our valued colleagues from the Commercial Team – Sophia Woollams, who successfully completed a Level 3 Apprenticeship in Procurement and Supply.
Joining HUC in July 2020 as an Administrator for the Medicines Management Team, Sophia’s career trajectory took a turn as she transitioned from dental nursing to pursue her passion for medicines. Eager to continually learn and grow, Sophia embraced the opportunity to improve her understanding of procurement and supply through the CIPS Level 3 Apprenticeship.
Reflecting on her experience, Sophia shares, “I was keen to develop my understanding of procurement and supply, and the role provided plenty of opportunities to complete my CIPS Level 3.”
Sophia’s dedication and her interest in market development, combined with the knowledge gained from her apprenticeship, resulted in career progression. Within a short period, she secured a secondment as a Relationship Business Partner within the Market Development arm of the Commercial Team. Sophia emphasises, “The apprenticeship led to a new role within HUC as a Relationship Business Partner, where I could apply all the theory and learning gained from my qualification and showcase this.”
The positive impact of the apprenticeship on her confidence and career
“I tell everyone that I have the best job in the world! My apprenticeship instilled a huge amount of self-confidence that I have never had before. It led to a role where I can use every one of my strengths and clearly see progress and positive impact. It’s a cliché, but it really was the making of me.”
Sophia’s success story serves as an inspiring testament to the benefits of apprenticeships. When asked about recommending apprenticeships to others, she encourages individuals to overcome initial reluctance saying, “It can be a daunting thought, especially while juggling work and family pressures. But, I am glad I took the plunge and forever grateful to HUC for believing in me. I would recommend completing an apprenticeship. With so many exciting options to study, there is something for everyone.”
Acknowledging HUC’s commitment to workforce development, Sophia expresses her gratitude, “HUC recognises the importance of workforce development. They offer flexibility and support you to find the best opportunities possible. Juggling work, family, and training can be so challenging and what helped was having that understanding.”
Congratulations to Sophia on achieving a distinction in her apprenticeship. We are immensely proud to witness her growth and the positive contributions she continues to make to HUC!
