As we approach the end of The Great Big Green Week, we are highlighting another one of our Green Ambassadors who is making a difference through their daily habits. Alice Coleman, our Clinical Workforce Manager in Bedford, is a passionate Green Ambassador who has seamlessly integrated eco-friendly practices into her life.
Alice’s motivation stems from her life on the boat, which serves as a constant reminder of the importance of protecting our environment. “Living with nature around me and being part of a community that shares the same ethos keeps me inspired,” she says. Alice’s morning routine sets a positive tone for the day. “I open the blinds and let the sunshine in. I love to watch the sunlight dancing on the water. Living on a boat means all my cooking requires minimal energy. I make my packed lunch using reusable lunchboxes and bamboo cutlery, which limits packaging,” she explains. “Every little effort counts. Shopping for fresh, prepackaged goods helps too!”

Her commitment to sustainability doesn’t stop when she leaves her home. Alice describes her workdays as “a blend of onsite and remote activities, which help minimise my carbon footprint. I like to work with a mix of face-to-face meetings and virtual catchups.” When she is in the office, she ensures that her workspace is eco-friendly by limiting disposable items, turning off lights when natural light is sufficient, and unplugging devices when they’re fully charged to conserve energy.
She recognises that while many organisations strive for sustainability, one of the biggest challenges is proper recycling practices. “We need to pay attention to using the correct bins for disposal,” she emphasises, calling for increased awareness among staff. “It’s important that we all feel part of the bigger picture, and a stronger collective effort is essential” One of Alice’s wishes for the workplace is simple yet impactful. “I would love to see more plants onsite. It would make the place literally more green!”
When it comes to keeping her momentum toward eco-friendly choices, Alice has found community support invaluable. “Seeing others making eco-friendly choices encourages me. If everyone does a little bit, the impact adds up!” she shares.
Alice’s commitment to sustainability is contagious. Through her everyday actions and unwavering dedication, Alice embodies what it means to be a Green Ambassador during The Great Big Green Week and beyond. Let’s all take a leaf from her book and work together for a greener future.
