Last week, HUC participated in The Great Big Green Week, the UK’s biggest ever celebration of action to tackle climate change and protect nature. This year’s theme was ‘making swaps every day to help create a better tomorrow’.
As part of HUC’s commitment to sustainability, our team of committed Green Ambassadors organised and ran activities from Monday 10 June to raise sustainability awareness and involve colleagues in green initiatives.
Litter pick and clothes donation
The Green Ambassadors and like-minded volunteers focused their efforts on HUC’s NHS 111 contact centres in Bedford and Welwyn Garden City, hosting litter-picking events as well as a clothes donation drive in other contact centres.
As a result, we were able to collect a whopping 150 kilograms of clothing – which is approximately the same weight as a panda bear!
Free seeds!
Throughout the week, the Green Ambassadors also organised the distribution of a variety of free seeds, including seeds for plants and vegetables, but also birdseed and even duck feed to connect with nature. Colleagues participated further by sharing tips and pictures throughout the week, bringing us all together with the common goal of furthering our sustainability efforts.
We’d like to extend a huge thank you to all colleagues and organisations who aided and embraced The Great Big Green Week. Remember, even small changes can make a big difference. Let’s carry this momentum forward and make every day a green day!
