Rania shares her love for crocheting
This week, we have the pleasure of catching up with Rania Al Dada, a highly regarded NHS 111 Call Handler based in our Welwyn Garden City contact centre. Rania, who joined HUC in September 2021, shares with how she got hooked on to her crocheting passion.
Interestingly, Rania began crocheting when she joined HUC. She reveals how this craft has become her personal favourite for relaxation and unwinding. “Crocheting allows me to go into a different world. Especially with some of the challenges which come with the Call Handling role, mentally and emotionally, it helps me find my own little space where I can have some quiet time. I also crochet free hand, so I don’t follow a pattern or templates, I enjoy this aspect of it, because there are no rules,” she says.
Rania’s mum spent a number of years teaching her the basic stitch, but once she nailed it, she was totally hooked! “It took me a while to learn as I struggled with the concept of using one crochet needle, which allows you to create a loop and link it to another. But once I managed this, I have been playing around and creating many different pieces.”
How long does it take Rania to complete one piece?
Juggling the responsibilities of motherhood and a demanding job, Rania doesn’t sit down to finish a piece from start to end. Instead she picks up her needle whenever she has a spare few minutes. “I don’t sit down and finish a piece from scratch, as I work night shifts and also have a young child to look after. Instead, I work on a piece bit by bit, until I am happy with the end product.”
Would you like to start crocheting?
For those thinking about crocheting, Rania wholeheartedly encourages getting yourself into this hobby, “Honestly, go for it! It has no gender or age limits, and it is so relaxing. You don’t need much, just a ball of yarn and a crochet needle. As soon as you make your first piece, it will give you such a buzz that you won’t want to stop!”
