Meet Rovina, our Corporate Governance Coordinator
In this week’s blog, we introduce you to Rovina, our dedicated Corporate Governance Coordinator. She shares her journey at HUC and sheds some light on an organisational culture that puts people at its heart has helped her own development.
Rovina joined HUC in February 2020 as an NHS 111 Call Handler. Previously, she had worked in litigation and law firms, specialising in immigration family matters. After a career break to focus on her family, Rovina discovered the Call Handler position at our Welwyn Garden Contact Centre. Reflecting on this transition, she says, “I was looking for some flexibility due to family commitments, and this role provided just that. Working part-time on weekends and evenings, from the start I felt incredibly supported by managers, shift managers, and colleagues generally. My ambition to progress remained, and encouraged by HUC’s commitment to people, I kept an eye out for opportunities.”
The advertisement of the Corporate Governance Coordinator role marked a pivotal moment for Rovina
“This role aligned perfectly with my expertise and ignited my passion once again. Coupled with the potential for career progression within HUC and the chance to work from home, it was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up,” she explains.
Like her experience as a Call Handler, Rovina feels privileged and proud to serve as our Corporate Governance Coordinator. Discussing her proudest moments, she says, “Being instrumental in establishing the Governance Team alongside my manager, Jamie Murray, receiving a HUC Heroes Staff Awards nomination, and being acknowledged for my support during the outage of our core patient management system, Adastra.”
What stands out most for Rovina however is the nurturing culture and the support she’s received while juggling a demanding role and being a devoted mother. “I am grateful to be part of a small but amazing team. Jamie is a manager who leads by example, he understands the impact of different situations and provides the support the team needs. He also always advocates work life balance. Stepping into a new role can be daunting, and whenever I found myself unsure in meetings or dealing with a specific challenge, HUC colleagues were always there to offer guidance and help me find my footing. This culture emanates from the top, with our CEO, David Archer, exemplifying a supportive and empathetic nature which ripples through the organisation,” Rovina adds.
When asked what advice she would offer to those considering joining an organisation like HUC, Rovina’s face lights up. “At HUC, you become part of a close-knit family. We genuinely listen to one another, foster open communication, and collaboratively tackle challenges big and small. There’s an understanding among colleagues, a constant push for personal growth, and an ongoing encouragement to seize new opportunities. This is an organisation that lives up to its values, genuinely caring for its colleagues,” she says.
Rovina’s drive for growth and development within HUC continues, and looking ahead, she says, “I am eager to learn, expand my skills, and progress in my professional journey at HUC, whilst being equally committed to supporting the Governance Team and contributing to HUC’s mission!”
